Is it common for someone who is dating a vanilla person - say a girl?
BDSM is like a kinky buffet. And I am not a fan of contract based relationships especially as a submissive female. Especially when the Dom has a vanilla relationship as well. To me I would rather have a Dom/Sub relationship then to be based in a contract.. But this is just my opinion.
